Product description

Fenugreek is a medicinal plant that has been praised since antiquity. Fenugreek seeds are particularly rich in mucilaginous fibers (galactomannans), steroidal saponins (diosgenin, yamogenin, gitogenin), alkaloids (trigonelline, gentianin, carpain) and atypical amino acids (4-hydroxyisoleucine).

Fenugreek has several "pending" health claims:

➪ Fenugreek and testosterone, what the science says:

This randomised controlled trial: 60 healthy men aged 25 to 52 years, without erectile dysfunction and randomized to receive an oral dose (two tablets per day) of active treatment (600 mg of Testofen per day) or placebo for 6 weeks.

Conclusion of this trial: It was concluded that Testofen demonstrated a significant positive effect on physiological aspects of libido and may help maintain levels of testosterone normal and healthy.

Another randomized controlled trial: 120 healthy men aged 43-70. The active treatment was a standardized extract of Trigonella foenum-graecum seeds at a dose of 600 mg/day for 12 weeks

Conclusion of this trial : Trigonella foenum-graecum seed extract is a safe and effective treatment to reduce symptoms of possible androgen deficiency, improves sexual function and increases testosterone serum in healthy middle-aged and older men.

This meta-analysis of clinical trials: In total, four trials were included. Fenugreek extract has a significant effect on total serum testosterone. Clinical trial results suggest that fenugreek extract supplement has an effect on serum levels of total testosterone in men.

This review which states that “moderate evidence supports the use of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graceum L . , Fabaceae) to increase testosterone total and improve seminal parameters. »

This longitudinal study: 100 healthy volunteers (aged 35-60) took 500mg daily of Furosap ® : Fenugreek seeds (Trigonella foenum-graecum) enriched with dietary fiber and furostanolic saponins, including protodioscin. Duration: 12 consecutive weeks.

Results from this study: Levels of testosterone free and bound improved significantly after 12 weeks treatment. Sperm motility increased significantly at 8 and 12 weeks of treatment, while abnormal sperm morphology decreased significantly at 12 weeks of treatment.

➪ Fenugreek and cholesterol

This randomised controlled trial: A total of 114 patients Newly diagnosed type II diabetics without significant diabetes complications were selected. They were grouped into two groups: the treatment group ( n = 57) consumed 25g of Trigonella foenum seed powder solution -graecum orally twice a day for one month and the second group is the control ( n = 57) who receives metformin.

Conclusion of this trial: The present study showed that the administration of Trigonella foenum-graecum seed powder solution had pronounced effects on the improvement of lipid metabolism in type II diabetic patients without adverse effects. Therefore, the seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum may provide new alternatives for the clinical management of type II diabetes.

This meta-analysis: 15 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 281 cases of fenugreek consumption and 255 control cases in the control group (11 articles) and 136 cases in the non-control group (4 articles) were analyzed.

What emerges from this meta-analysis: The pooled data indicate a significant impact of fenugreek supplementation on the reduction of cholesterol total (CT ) of lipoproteins of low density (LDL) and increase in the level of lipoproteins of high density (HDL) compared to the control group. There were no significant differences in TC, TG and LDL between the pre- and post-fenugreek studies in the uncontrolled studies however, the result of the combination of four studies without a control group showed a significant increase in HDL medium. The results of the subgroup analysis showed that fenugreek reduced TG and LDL and increased HDL levels more effectively in diabetic subjects. Fenugreek supplementation significantly improved the lipid profile (LDL, TG, TC and HDL). It could be considered an effective lipid-lowering medicinal plant. Further high quality studies are needed to firmly establish the clinical efficacy of the herb.

A review of a total of 10 articles (12 studies) showed that the results suggest that fenugreek has hypoglycemic efficacy and hypotensive of CT; however, effects on TG, LDL-c and HDL-c require further confirmation.

Another meta-analysis: An analysis of 12 RCTs with 560 participants suggested a significant decrease in plasma concentrations of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol as well as an increase in plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
