Product Description

What is it?

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning it is soluble in fat. It is of course found in food in fatty fish (such as sardines and salmon), egg yolk, cod liver oil and more surprisingly, certain mushrooms such as chanterelles or raw chanterelles. Dietary intake of vitamin D is said to be exogenous.
Vitamin Quali®-D is a pharmaceutical grade vitamin D produced by the European brand DSM certified HACCP and ISO9001. DSM has been manufacturing vitamins for over 75 years, which is one of its specialties.
As a guide: To reach the minimum recommended daily amount of 400 IU, you must eat: 8 eggs, 200g of salmon or 15L of milk - every day!
The body itself is able to synthesize vitamin D3 (endogenous source) by a chemical process involving a reaction between UVB rays (ultraviolet B rays) from the sun and the cholesterol present on the surface of the skin. Indeed, vitamin D is produced under the action of UVB rays which protolyze cholesterol in the skin into pre-vitamin D. The latter will then undergo 2 hydroxylations to be transformed into active vitamin D.
There are several forms of vitamin D, vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) and vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol). Vitamin D2 (derived from plants) is the least effective since it is not correctly stored and is difficult to transform into active vitamin D3.
Vitamin D is responsible for a number of functions in the body:
➪ Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus➪ Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones➪ Vitamin D contributes to normal calcemia➪ Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance normal muscle function➪ Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth➪ Vitamin D contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system➪ Vitamin D plays a role in the process of cell division
Vitamin D deficiency: An unfortunately common problem
Vitamin D deficiency remains a global problem, approximately 1 billion people worldwide are experiencing inadequate levels. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) estimates that vitamin D deficiency in France affects 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 6 children - that's 10 million of us! The SUVIMAX-OS study also concluded that "French city-dwellers very often have an insufficient dietary intake of vitamin D to compensate for the lack of sunshine".
Although the recommendations state that with only 50g of salmon per day, we could meet the daily requirements for vitamin D3 (estimated at 15µg/d or 600UI/d) , this intake is actually insufficient in 80% of cases. Indeed, it has been estimated that the daily requirements amount to 75 IU/kg/d, i.e. between 4000-8000 IU/d for a healthy adult (considering that endogenous synthesis is nil). However, since most of the needs are covered by synthesis at the level of the skin through exposure to the sun, but a very large part of the population is not sufficiently exposed, food is not enough to meet the daily vitamin D3 requirements. This is supported by the ESTEBAN study.
Signs of vitamin D deficiency can manifest as a weakened immune system (frequent colds. ), fatigue with a drop in muscle tone, poor bone health (osteomalacia, rickets or osteoporosis) and dental (weakened enamel) or even a bad mood and attacks of tetany and convulsions in the most severe cases.
If you regularly suffer from any of these symptoms, it could be a sign that you are lacking in vitamin D!
Factors affecting the absorption or synthesis of vitamin D3 are as follows:

➣ Insufficient sun exposure

➣ Skin pigmentation (dark skin)

➣ Sun creams over 15 SPF

➣ Skin make-up

➣ Aging

➣ Confinement (elderly people in institutions, children. )

➣ Poor, vegan or vegetarian diets

➣ Geographical location (areas with little or no sunshine)

➣ Time of year (winter and fall seasons)

Composition

Vitamin D3 with Coconut Oil from Osavi® is a food supplement consisting of vitamin D3 in the form of cholecalciferol (assimilable and active form) and oil coconut for improved absorption.
Adding coconut oil to dietary supplements allows good absorption of vitamin D3, which is a fat-soluble vitamin. In fact, the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins is closely linked to that of lipids, the different stages of which they follow.
Therefore, their absorption will be decreased in case of lipid malabsorption and sensitive to changes in ingested lipids. Thus, the use of medium-chain triglycerides (like coconut oil) will increase the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and direct it to the portal blood and liver as well. In addition, medium-chain triglycerides have preferential absorption into portal blood even when lipid digestion is abnormal (in other words, vitamin D3 will be well absorbed even in a person with lipid malabsorption).

The opinion of our professionals

Advice of the nutrition expert
@isabelle_fit_ "Vitamin D is one of the most essential vitamins throughout our lives. It is essential during the growth of the child until the good aging in the elderly. Vitamin D deficiency has always existed, particularly in northern countries where the amount of sunshine is much lower than in other regions. However, today, everyone is concerned by this risk of deficiency because of our sedentary lifestyles which push us to be locked up and to protect ourselves from the sun with sunscreens or even not to eat enough or correctly. This is why it is very common to have to supplement DAILY with vitamin D3 to meet your daily needs. The addition of coconut oil to vitamin D3 allows its better absorption since it is a fat-soluble vitamin, that is to say, which disperses in lipid environments. Thus, vitamin D will emulsify with the lipid droplets of coconut oil and pass the intestinal wall by the same mechanisms as the latter. "

Opinion from a coach

@fitnessbreak

"Because of exposure to the sun with fairly strong UVB only from April to September (is it still necessary to expose yourself to the sun), a very large number of the population find themselves deficient in vitamin D.
This is one of the supplements that I include in the top 5 to consume. People with darker skin have an increased need for Vitamin D. "
