What is it?

Collagen+ type II from XXL NUTRITION is a food supplement based on collagen hydrolyzed beef, vitamin C, magnesium and copper.

Collagen plays an important role in the structure, elasticity and strength of different types of connective tissue. These types of connective tissues include cartilage, tendons, bones, tendons, and skin. There are different types of collagen (no less than 14), of which XXL Nutrition offers 1, namely type 2. Type 2 is found in the elastic cartilage.

The specificity of type II collagen is that the collagen peptides have been chosen with the aim of maximizing the stimulation of a particular type of human cells which are chondrocytes, cells which produce the cartilage and also synthesize collagen.

The minerals copper and magnesium as well as vitamin C have been added to Collagen+, so that you receive a perfect dose of active substances in one go.

Composition

Collagen is the main protein in connective tissue (supporting tissue that protects the organs around it) and the most abundant in the body (30% total protein). Its main functions are to ensure the cohesion of all tissues, to guarantee the elasticity and integrity of the skin, cartilage, tendons and ligaments as well as bones. During natural aging, the synthesis of collagen slows down, leading to a progressive degradation of collagen fibers (the skin thins and wrinkles appear, loss of bone mass, joint pain due to loss of cartilage, etc.) Collagen, unlike all the others sources of protein, has a very specific composition of amino acids which gives it unique functional properties. These amino acids provided in large proportion (glycine and proline/hydroxyproline) are those found in the skin, bones and joints of the human body, which explains its specific action on these tissues.

At the level of the skin, collagen fibers help maintain the structure and firmness of the skin as well as the stability of elastin (guaranteeing the elasticity of the skin) and hyaluronic acid (guaranteeing hydration). The activity of collagen-producing cells decreases with age, so the supply of collagen peptides allows these functions to be maintained. A clinical trial showed that collagen peptide supplementation increased skin hydration, decreased collagen fragmentation (deterioration) in the deeper layers of the skin over time, and increased same time the density of the collagen fiber layer.

At the bone level, collagen peptides would stimulate osteoblasts (cells responsible for bone formation) without affecting osteoclasts (cells that resorb bone tissue). Thus, collagen would promote the renewal of bone tissue while preserving its mineral density and improving its solidity and resistance over time.

At the cartilaginous level, a study conducted by the Collagen Research Institute (CRI), showed that supplementation with collagen peptides stimulated cartilage cell metabolism (stimulation of chondrocytes ) and increased the production of aggrecan, a proteoglycan essential for cartilage function. Bioactive collagen peptides would therefore stimulate the synthesis and regeneration of the extracellular cartilaginous matrix and delay the onset of pain, tenderness or stiffness of the joints associated with age and sport.

Finally, collagen has secondary functions such as maintaining healthy hair and nails. Indeed, collagen peptides are used by cells to produce keratin (protein that makes up hair and nails).

Hydrolyzed bovine collagen

Collagen+ is based on bovine collagen. Bovine means beef and Collagen+ is made up of 78% of this hydrolyzed beef collagen.

Collagen peptides are hydrolyzed collagen, that is to say "pre-digested" proteins that are found in the form of free and easily absorbable amino acid chains. There are different forms of collagen (native collagen for example) but the most effective products are those that contain collagen peptides. Indeed, the hydrolyzation of long chains of amino acids into much shorter chains allows better absorption and use by the body.

Collagen+ is also supplemented with natural ingredients such as magnesium citrate, natural flavor and Stevia.

Collagen with vitamin C, Magnesium and Copper

Finally, the vitamin C added to the formulation of Collagen+ is essential for the synthesis of collagen . Indeed hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine are components of collagen. Without ascorbic acid, the activity of the two oxidases allowing the hydroxylation of proline and lysine are reduced and the synthesis of collagen becomes incomplete. Indeed, ascorbic acid is the cofactor of its hydroxylation enzymes by the oxidation of iron Fe3+ to Fe2+ which is necessary for the activity of these two oxidases.

The minerals copper and magnesium as well as vitamin C are added to Collagen+, so that you receive a perfect dose of active substances in one go.

Dosage

Take 10 grams (1 scoop) of Collagen+ and mix it with at least 150ml of your beverage of choice.
Shake well for at least 15 seconds, we recommend using a shaker.

Advice of the nutrition expert

"Collagen is a major and essential constituent for the health of bones, joints, tendons and ligaments. Unfortunately, the current diet contains almost no more because of our habits (we no longer eat the skin of meat or the marrow of bones...). Thus, we end up with a greatly reduced collagen supply. However, you should know that, even if the synthesis of collagen is endogenous, it decreases over time and with intense physical effort. Indeed, the older we get, the more the synthesis of collagen decreases. For top athletes, collagen synthesis is overstimulated by the greater and more frequent degradation of tissues. Thus, collagen supplementation seems to be of absolute importance for the elderly and for athletes in order to preserve the health of their joints. Collagen Pro® contains 3 different forms of collagen that meet the collagen needs of all types of tissues that contain it (joints, ligaments, bones, muscles. ) In addition, the form of peptides allows for optimal bioavailability and assured utilization of the peptides by the body.
