Creatine is a natural amino acid derivative: glycine, arginine and methionine. Creatine reserves are found mainly in skeletal muscles (about 95%) as well as in the brain, liver, kidneys and testicles (representing 5% of creatine reserves).
Endogenously , creatine is synthesized corresponding to a range of approximately 1 to 2g per day. Food represents an intake of around 1g per day.
Consumption of meat (+/- 5g of creatine for 1kg of meat), fish and animal products provides creatine intake. Plasma creatine levels have been shown to be lower in vegetarians and people adopting a vegan lifestyle.
There are health claims about creatine:
➪ Creatine improves physical abilities in case of successive series of very intense exercises of short duration: l The beneficial effect is obtained by the daily consumption of 3g of creatine
➪ The daily consumption of creatine can reinforce the effect of weight training on muscle strength in adults aged over 55: the beneficial effect is obtained by the daily consumption of 3g of creatine in conjunction with the practice of bodybuilding.
Creatine and kidneys: the end of a myth!
Since creatine is widely used by athletes and the elderly, doctors and users have wondered if it could not affect kidney health. These questions followed some cases of kidney damage after taking this supplement in bodybuilders. However, these were only isolated cases since the people in question also consumed anabolic steroids, known to be harmful to the kidneys (and health in general. ).
Brazilian researchers studied the topic to prove that creatine supplements are safe for kidney health. The research team did a meta-analysis of 290 studies that used creatine supplementation. Their analysis showed no correlation between creatine consumption and impaired kidney function. However, it is true that blood creatinine levels can be high and increase in people who consume this type of supplement. However, this is a false indicator that in no way reflects kidney damage.
Other results showed that there was no kidney damage following creatine supplementation. Similarly, there was no change in the glomerular filtration rate (which assesses kidney function).
➣ Consumption is safe for kidney function, in people with no kidney disease. Creatine supplements should not be used in people with chronic kidney disease or using potentially nephrotoxic medications.
Current European regulations do not allow us to say more about the benefits of creatine supplementation. We invite you to consult the numerous scientific data by going to Pubmed, the reference scientific database.
The Creatine Kre-Alkalyn® from EFX® is composed solely of creatine monohydrate. It is a pH buffered creatine monohydrate.
It has the advantage of preventing water retention and bloating usually caused by normal creatine consumption. Creatine is stabilized and contributes to the acid level of the digestive system to prevent digestive problems such as bloating, cramps and diarrhea.
Research around Kre-Alkalyn® has shown that the lower the pH the faster the conversion to creatinine. Thus, since the Kre-Alkalyn® is buffered at pH12, the conversion is no longer possible or almost impossible. Buffered creatine would bring the intact creatine into the bloodstream and then into the muscle cells.
On the other hand, there is no difference in terms of benefits for strength, endurance and athletic performance compared to other forms of creatine monohydrate.
In other words, Kre-Alkalyn® has all the benefits of creatine without the drawbacks.
Dosage: As a dietary supplement, take 2 capsules 30 minutes before training and 2 capsules after training.
Warnings: Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not be used as substitutes for a varied diet. A varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important. Keep out of reach of children under three years old. Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature.
Supplementation should be avoided if you are taking the following medicines:
➪ Medicines that affect liver or kidney function.
➪ Cyclosporine which is an immunosuppressant.
➪ Antibiotics: aminoglycosides, gentamicin, tobramycin.
➪ Anti-inflammatories: ibuprofen…
➪ Drugs to regulate blood sugar.
Health professional opinion
Advice of the nutrition expert
"Creatine is produced endogenously by the body in small amounts. It can also be provided through food and in particular through red meat. Nevertheless, to obtain the effects claimed in the studies, in particular at the level of physical practice, it is necessary to consume 5g or more per day. However, this dose is impossible to achieve through food alone. Thus, creatine supplementation may be necessary if you are looking to achieve the effects claimed by science for creatine. Kre-Alkalyn® is ideal for people who suffer from "side effects" after the consumption of conventional creatine monohydrate. "
Opinion from a coach
"Creatine has proven itself with thousands of studies certifying its beneficial effects on strength/performance/recovery.
This stomach PH resistant version makes it a high quality creatine.
It is one of the best investments among dietary supplements.
Consume 2 capsules (or 2 scoops for the powder version) before and after training during the pre and post training meal. "
