Product Description
What is it?
L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid. The body cannot synthesize this amino acid on its own, so it must be provided through food. L-tryptophan is found in animal and vegetable proteins. The "L-tryptophan" form is that which is naturally found in the body and which exerts physiological actions.
L-Tryptophan is a metabolic precursor of 5-hydroxytryptamine, better known under the name of
serotonin (see
reference 1).
In the serotonin biosynthesis pathway, 5-HTP is an intermediate of this pathway since it is synthesized from L-tryptophan.
Serotonin biosynthetic pathway There are other derivatives of tryptophan, such as niacin (vitamin B3) (see
reference 2).
What science says about tryptophan:
➪ Tryptophan and sleep: Reference 3 - Reference 4- Reference 5 - Reference 6
➪ Tryptophan and depression/anxiety: Reference 7 - Reference 8 - Reference 9
Current European regulations prevents communication on the benefits of tryptophan supplementation. We invite you to visit the Pubmed scientific database to find out more.
