What is Vitargo®?


Vitargo® is a low osmolarity carbohydrate to be taken pre, intra and/or post training.


Why take carbohydrates before, during and after physical exertion?


During physical exertion, carbohydrates and fats are the main energy substrates of our body. The more intense the effort, the greater the proportion of carbohydrates used by our body, while that of lipids decreases.
The main sources of carbohydrates for our body are muscle and liver glycogen, and glucose circulating in the blood. However, these reserves are not eternal, and are exhausted as the effort progresses. The more intense the effort, the more quickly these decrease. Thus, the intake of exogenous carbohydrates is essential to continue to perform, especially when the sports session is longer than one hour.


The intake of exogenous carbohydrates before and/or during a session then becomes essential to delay muscle fatigue and continue to perform, which is what athletes seek at all costs. This action is due to the availability of the carbohydrates consumed which allows us to preserve our glycogen reserves.


It is also important to supply your body with nutrients, especially carbohydrates, at the end of a sports session, in order to replenish glycogen stores. Taking carbohydrates directly after exercise triggers the insulin response. The latter allows, from the glucose present in the blood, to activate the restocking of muscle glycogen via the process of glycogenesis. This reconstitution of glycogen stocks is faster when these have been preserved by the supply of carbohydrates before or during training.


To sum up, Vitargo® allows an accelerated and continuous supply of carbohydrates to the body during and after exercise, guaranteeing on the one hand, an increase in endurance and muscular performance and on the other, rapid and optimal muscle recovery through accelerated and complete reconstitution of glycogen stores. All this makes it possible to optimally link successive sports sessions.


What about hydration in all of this?


Numerous studies have shown that a carbohydrate drink can optimize the absorption of water, but also to promote its consumption by being tastier. Limiting dehydration allows you to continue to perform during your physical effort. Indeed, physical abilities are impacted from a water loss equivalent to 2% of body weight, so it is better to prevent it!


What is low osmolarity? ?


The osmolarity of a solution corresponds to the osmotic pressure (minimum pressure that must be exerted to prevent the passage of a solvent from a less concentrated solution to a solution more concentrated through a semi-permeable membrane) thereof. Vitargo® has a low osmotic pressure, ie it is lower than the plasma concentration (>270-275 mOsm/L).
Composition

Vitargo® is a carbohydrate (or carbohydrate) produced from a polymer of glucose i.e., a starch (reserve sugar of plant cells). It can be made from most vegetable starches, here it is made from barley starch.


Vitargo® is a special carbohydrate because it has a particularly high molecular weight profile (500000 to 700000g/mol) very different from other carbohydrates (hundreds and thousands of times larger) which make up the sugars that we know well (glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltodextrin, dextrose, etc.).


Vitargo® contains only this particular form of carbohydrate (for the plain version). No other sugar is part of the composition.


How is Vitargo® different from others?


Vitargo® is different from other carbohydrates due to its very high molecular weight (from 100 to 1000 times higher than maltodextrin or glucose). In addition, it is made through a special patented fractionation process that makes its form quickly assimilated by the body (about 10min after ingestion). Indeed, in a university study performed in 2000, it was shown that Vitargo® is emptied from the stomach, enters the small intestine and passes into the bloodstream, 2 to 3 times faster than maltodextrin and other carbohydrates used in sports supplementation without potentiating the increase in blood sugar or circulating insulin.


A second advantage of Vitargo® is its low osmolarity which gives it both a low ability to attract and retain water or gastric fluids but also a greater gastric emptying capacity. high (so it spends less time in the stomach). All this avoids the "bloat" effects that can be felt when consuming other "energy" drinks high in sugars (maltodextrin type) attracting and retaining water longer in the stomach and preventing optimal comfort during of training. Another advantage of Vitargo® is its strong ability to regenerate glycogen levels. Indeed, in a second study performed at the Karolinska Institute, Vitargo® was shown to regenerate glycogen stores 70% faster and 77% more strongly (in terms of quantity) than any other other carbohydrate drinks tested (in just about 2 hours post-workout) due to its lower osmolarity. Therefore, the recovery is very fast and allows a good muscular preparation for the next training sessions.


Vitargo®, in addition to its superior ability to provide energy substrate quickly to the body, allows, as a result, to improve sports performance and endurance. In a study published in the Journal of Sports and Science, post-exercise ingestion of Vitargo® was shown to improve performance by up to 23% during subsequent exercise of cycling. Similarly, in a latest and most recent study, Vitargo® consumption after intense and prolonged endurance exercise was shown to improve movement speed and power in subsequent exercises resistance tests compared to maltodextrin.


In summary, Vitargo® is considered today to be the most rapidly absorbed and assimilated form of carbohydrate by the body. This unique ability not only allows a much faster and more constant intake of carbohydrates that can be used as an energy source during physical exercise for strength or endurance, but also a much higher speed and efficiency of muscle recovery than other carbohydrates. used in sports supplementation.
